Hazina Trade Centre plays host to Nakumatt’s largest outlet in Nairobi’s CBD, Nakumatt Lifestyle. The Ksh 7.1 billion project consists of an existing 8-storey building and additional 32 storeys. Upon completion, the Hazina Towers will be the tallest building in Kenya.
According to Construction Review, the project commenced in 1994. Construction begun 3 years later but it ground to a halt due to financial constraints in NSSF. It was reportedly leased to Nakumatt Holdings in 2003.
In November 2013, Nairobi’s Governor, Evans Kidero demanded that NSSF acquires an updated Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report. This delayed the commencement of the project.
The project contractor is China Jiangxi International. The architects are Mruttu Salmann & Associates.
